2nd ep on the label from french duo Club Bizarre after last years’s acclaimed La Mort Du Petit Cheval.

Bogota’s EP sees Sam Berdah and Phil Binda pushing further their blend of cold wave and slow-mo techno to bring us an EP that really encapsulate their world and sound.

Opener “Bogota” is built around a solid post punk bass groove colliding with a relentless drum machine, and frozen synthetic melodies. Driven by a faster tempo than usual for Club Bizarre, this reveals the two producers in much more confident and daring light.
A feeling that remain consistently through the record.

Second original track on the EP, “Bazzanbasel” boasts slamming 909 snares bouncing on a driving techno bass line. A very melodic track, it unfolds with relentless dynamic and really solid groove, again a testimony of the pair growing skills in crafting elegant and soulful techno.

The 909 snare is replaced by a 707 on EP closer Hypnoting.
Like its name suggests, this a trance track… but a lo-fi one and played by a Joy Division cover band learning to be New Order after the suicide of their singer.
So this is very much Club Bizarre music, but the repetitive post-punk bass (like a pitched up Colder record) coupled to delayed vocal loops and psychedelic weird synths is definitely trance inducing.

The release comes with two remixes by Kiwi and Moon Runner.
Tackling Bogota, Kiwi, takes a more mental approach, getting rid of the synth melodies and focusing on that obsessive bass line. His version is colder, minimal and very deranged.

Moon Runner takes a similar approach with Bazzanbasel, stripping it from his melodic content to focus on the groove and hardening the bass / drum pair to devastating effect.
