The mighty Club Bizarre comes back on Days of Being Wild for their 3rd release on the label.
The French duo - our very own Sam Berdah and Philippe Binda - is known for its long, sensual, slowly building Dj sets and disco noir, punkish productions, blending new wave and disco on the slower side of dance music tempo.
“Music Machine” is quite representative of that sound - a dark, exciting and retro futurist selection of tracks oscillating between weird experimental sounds, uplifting melodies, acid lines, vocoders and irresistible grooves.
The three original tracks are born from spontaneous experimentations and re-purposed ideas, one is an aborted remix and the other a never finished track, rediscovered through fresh approach and live jamming.
Title track “Music Machine” is propelled by an irresistible invitation the get lost in dance built over an arpeggiated bass and addictive acid line, while a minimal and mental 3 notes motive travels over it drenched in reverb. Trance inducing stuff.
“Cyborg“ pushes the limit of slow dancing. This is an exercice in melodic chug techno, all percussion and space arpeggios out, where layers of melodies intertwine in delays over a slow repetitive bass and a vicious reversed snare.
Last original piece on the EP, “Bells” starts with weird pitched percussion slowly evolving towards a tribal rhythm and a spacey arpeggio, this is a slow builder for the later part of the night, mixing acid lines, old school drum machines sounds, ambient pads and a bonkers detuned melody. Beautiful and weird.
Closing the EP is a remix of “Music Machine” by Lithuanian producer and Vilnius’ Opium club booker V.
A veteran of Lithuanian electronic music scene, V (real name Vidmantas Čepkauskas) muscles up the original and his years as a DJ can be felt throughout his remix, the tension / release and build are guaranteed to fill the floor.
Although slightly slower than the original, the distorted snare and additional new wave melodies brings his remix closer to peak time material.
