Days of Being Wild kicks off 2018 welcoming back french producer OFFSET to their imprint. Philippe Juven, that's his name, delivers three fresh cuts that will take you from a night drive back to San Junipero circa 1986. As always with OFFSET the sound is huge, machine cold but oh so human warm, perhaps exploring a more melodic or romantic side of the producer, definitely a nostalgic one.
“Night Drive” with its robotic beat, syncopated bass and repetitive pop vocals drenched in reverb is reminiscent of these treasured 12” extended mixes found on the b-sides of your favourite techno pop band of the 80’s. You know the ones carved by Ship Pettibone and the likes and where you didn’t need to suffer the emo chorus of the original.
“Chase” with its post nuke sequences is a trip straight down to your favourite video club where real size cardboard shapes of Snake Plissken and The Terminator were shadowy figures welcoming you to the sci-fi section. Relentless and noir this is pure electronic retro futurism for the dance floor.
“Wander” keeps in the same instrumental and futuristic vein as “Chase” - brutal and elegant at the same time, relentless and pulsing to the end of the night.
Finally, wild aficionados Club Bizarre are closing the EP with their own hypnotic take on the title track. All bouncing bass and trippy synth sequences, their remix feels more techno but somehow manage to bring out the cinematic and romantic sides of the original.
